Amazon has been adding a lot of features to its renowned Alexa platform lately. Better integration and the ability to control basic functions of other smart devices were features that Amazon had added to Alexa in a recent past. Now, according to the latest reports, Alexa will be getting the ability to wake smart home devices that are in a Sleeping state. It should be noted that the Sleep state of a smart device is different from a usual Turned-Off state. While in Sleep, the device will be powered on but it won’t be able to recognize the voice command from Alexa.

Now, Amazon developers have added a feature that is called Wake on LAN. “We’re excited to introduce the Wake-on-LAN Controller, which enables customers to use Alexa to power on smart devices which have gone into a low power mode and cannot be woken up via the cloud. Now, whenever a customer wants to power on a smart device, typically a TV or other entertainment equipment, that has gone into low power mode using only voice, they can simply say, “Alexa, turn on my TV”,” says Amazon in the official blog post in the developer blog.

The Wake-on-LAN Controller is offering a number of benefits for developers as well as users. For customers, Alexa would become an even better way to interact with smart home devices, regardless of whether they are in sleeping mode. For developers, the Controller would be a platform to establish a seamless connection between the customer and the devices in the network. The best part here is that this feature doesn’t require any hardware change or repair. Amazon says that many companies would be adding this feature into devices in the coming months, offering a better experience for Amazon Alexa users.
