Tech giant Amazon is working on a new concept of a salon. The company has opened a salon in London based in the East End Spitalfields area. Amazon said that it will trial the latest industry technology including augmented reality at the salon before any expansion plan. Amazon said that it will test an augmented reality app. The software will allow customers to explore different hairstyles and colors. They can see how new hairstyles will look on them before they opt for a haircut. Customers can also order products using Amazon by scanning QR codes at the salon. Amazon in a blog post said that the salon will act as an experiential venue where the company will demonstrate new products and technology.

Amazon said that there are no current plans in place to open any other salon. The London-based salon is spread over an area of more than 1,500 square feet. It has two floors. Amazon added that besides getting a haircut, customers can test new point-and-learn technology. They can access information related to products placed on shelves at the salon and purchase. It will include QR codes for buying specific products. The facility is initially open to Amazon employees. Amazon added that common people will be allowed to visit the store soon. Amazon’s decision to open a salon in London is significant as the government is easing Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.

Amazon said that customers will be given face masks and sanitizer free of cost before they enter the salon. Besides, a system has been placed to measure visitors’ body temperature. Amazon’s UK manager John Boumphrey said that the salon has been designed to offer the first-ever one of its kind experience to customers. He added that customers will get the best hair care products. Amazon’s salon is a part of the company’s effort to enter the fashion and beauty sectors. Amazon has struggled for years to make its presence felt in these sectors. The e-commerce giant had earlier launched Amazon Professional Beauty Store in the country. It is an online storefront where the company sells spa and salon products.
