The revamped heart sensor was one of the most noted features when the Apple Watch was launched. It was said to analyse heartbeats and rhythms so that abnormalities in the same can be notified. Now, Apple Inc is trying to prove the same by conducting one of the biggest studies in the domain. According to sources, Apple Watch Heart Study will be taking inputs from 4,00,000 subjects. The study will be focusing on whether the Apple Watch is able to understand the undiagnosed problems with heart rhythm throughout a long period of time.

The study is being conducted with the help of researchers from Stanford University and the team had shared more details about the study. The core objective of the analysis is to understand whether the Apple Watch is capable of detecting atrial fibrillation. Atrial fibrillation is one of the dangerous conditions that can increase the chances of having stroke and other issues. As per the information from CDC, around 130,000 deaths are caused by atrial fibrillation every single year, with many times people subjected to treatment. If proven, the Apple Watch would be quite useful for the healthy life of an average American.

The problem with atrial fibrillation is that it does not show any major symptom from the outer view. In order to be diagnosed, analysis of the heart rhythm can be a source. The idea here is to understand whether the in-built sensors of the Apple Watch are capable of detecting the same. “One of the most exciting things in this revolution in digital health is the opportunity to reach very large numbers of people in a very short period of time without huge expense,” says one of the researchers. It needs to be noted that patients don’t have to visit the doctor in order to participate in the study. Instead, notifications are used.
