In a shocking turn of Events, Microsoft is notifying the Outlook.com users to change the passwords as a group of hackers had anonymous access of some of the outlook.com accounts for a few months. According to the information shared by Microsoft, one of the support agent’s username and password leaked and the hackers had unauthorized access to some of the outlook.com accounts the Support agent was managing. The hackers had access to the accounts from January 1st and March 28th, 2019 without having proper authorization from the company or the users.

Explaining the access of hackers, Microsoft said that the hackers had access to emails, body content, address book, but not the attachments and the cloud accounts linked with it. Microsoft is not sure how many accounts were accessed and how the data hackers had access to has been used. But, the company is asking every customer to change the password to be on the safer side even if his account is secure from this unauthorized access fiasco. Thankfully, no sensitive information is stolen like the passwords and other stored attachments. But it is highly recommended for users to change the current password.

Microsoft is sending personalized emails and security notifications to warn the users about this disaster. The company also said that they take data protection and a similar issue will not arise again. This is the second time since Microsoft is facing the problems with security after the employees mess up with the system. Last time, Former security researcher at Microsoft plead guilty for hacking into the Nintendo servers. Also, in January 2017, theWindows Development servers were breached, and the Windows users in Europe had access to the pre-release versions of Windows OS. According to the company, they have fixed the problem, and now no more outlook.com accounts are in danger.
