Appendix has been, for a long period of time, considered an object in the human body with not much of an important role in the process. However, the recent study by a group of scientists may prove that wrong, with findings that the appendix may have an important role in the development of Parkinson’s Disease. This study was based on data from Sweden and had tried to find the relationship between the presence of appendix as well as the chances of having Parkinson’s disease. It was found that those who had removed appendix had a lesser chance of having Parkinson’s disease.

This is because the appendix contains some material that can enhance the development of Parkinson’s in a noticeable manner. Alpha-synuclein is a component that is present in the appendix and this would lead to a situation where the development of Parkinson’s. This component is found to have a core connection with the disease. The authors are not claiming that the removal of appendix would reduce the chances of getting Parkinson’s disease, but the finding was made during the research to find a plausible cure for the Parkinson’s disease, which has been impacting many people.

Parkinson’s Disease has been noted for its serious repercussions on the body, especially the motor systems. There have been many theories about the cause of the disease and many researchers are still working on the studies, including this group. Mainly, the cause of Parkinson’s has been attributed to both environmental and genetic factors, but finding the exact cause would be a turning-point when it comes to discovering an effective medicine for the disease. The study was published in the journal named Science Translational Medicine and provides statistical information about the chances of having Parkinson’s with respect to the presence of Parkinson’s disease.
