Apple Inc does not offer the best service for older devices, be it iPhone, MacBook or minor ones. However, the company is planning to change that by launching something new. Sources report that Apple has plans to launch a repair program, dedicated for vintage devices. Most of the devices in the list have been either discontinued or less focused upon in the recent past. The Repair Vintage Apple Products Pilot program is expected to help users get the right care for their old devices, including the MacBook Air late 2011 and iPhone 5, which was released in 2012.

This is not the first time Apple is launching something like this. In fact, a pilot for a repair program was run in the US during the second quarter of 2018. Sources had reported then that Apple would expand its coverage if the responses are effective. Now that the plans for a category-wide expansion are out, it is likely that Apple users were impressed by the program, which ran between March 31 and August 31. As of now, five devices — MacBook Air, (11-inch and 13-inch), 21.5-inch iMac, 27-inch iMac and iPhone 5. However, more devices are expected to enter this program soon.

Sources have reported that the following devices would be added to the program in the coming months:

  • iPhone 4s, released 2011
  • 15-inch MacBook Pro, released mid-2012
  • 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, released late 2012
  • 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, released early 2013
  • MacBook Pro with Retina display, released mid-2012
  • Mac Pro, released mid-2012
  • iPhone 5 (GSM), released 2012

The idea from Apple’s side is that devices manufactured between 2011 and 2013 should be added to Pilot program and users will be able to repair the devices. It should be noted that Apple does not offer the assured repair program. Instead, repairs will be carried out depending on the availability of parts.
