Lyft has joined hands with some corporate companies to offer free rides to and from COVID-19 vaccinations sites. The ride-hailing service provider said that it will offer 60 million free rides to people of low-income groups. Among those who can avail of free rides are uninsured and people from communities who are at risk. The free services will be provided by the company as and when the vaccination drive begins. Lyft has partnered with JPMorgan Chase, Modern Health, Anthem Inc., United Way, One Medical, Epic, Centene Corporation, National Asian Pacific Center on Aging. National Hispanic Council on Aging and others to extend this help in the coming weeks.

Lyft president and co-founder John Zimmer said that the most important thing to beat this virus is to be at the vaccination sites when the need is. “We are simply making sure that this happens. It is an opportunity for the entire community to come together and mobilize for the better of the common man.” He said that everyone needs to come forward during these testing times if they want to do anything for their community. Zimmer said that it is a small effort by Lyft to provide free access to people who are in dire need of getting vaccinated.

Corporate partners of the company will fund rides for uninsured Americans and those who do not have coverage from the government for transportation. The non-profit partners at national and local levels will distribute ride credits to citizens of America who need it the most. While distributing it to the community members, these partners will decide whether the ride offered will be free or discounted. The announcement by Lyft comes close on the heels of its rival Uber announcing 10 million discounted or free rides to people who are looking to get COVID-19 shots. The rides will also include their transportation for their second and final dose. It will be to and from the COVID-19 vaccination site.
